“Why did I come in here?” I question myself as I walk into the office.
“Who was I going to email?” as I hit compose. “Where did I see a copy of that book?” as I scan my shelves. “What appointment was I going to call about during lunch?” as I walk back in from recess duty. All this, all these “open tabs” in a matter of an hour. Life is good, life is busy, but I can’t help but ponder...is the gray matter starting to fade? Has there been an overload? Do I need more “storage space” in my head...or some new herbal supplement to help with memory? And then, a first grader aligns and simultaneously contrasts my concern. He is eager and elated to read. His skills are powerfully propelling him through the words, and his “tabs” are opening uncontrollably to invite information. The questions come faster than the pronunciation of the words on the page- unbounded connections and wonderings filled with awe and an urgency for answers. Keep asking little one. Keep reading and wondering. Enjoy that young hard drive capacity!

Waiting...waiting...been thinking a bit about….waiting. The old adage “hurry up and wait” comes to mind as I frantically dash in from arrival duty, disassemble my armor of parka, patrol vest, gloves, hat, mask and click “join now” to await the first remote learner of the day. As I wait, a student “waiter” hops on worried that their teacher is not there-it’s because this ambitious student is always a minute or two early. I assure him that said teacher will be on at go time, and sure enough his face lights up as he flees my link because “my teacher is there!”.
Waiting...the action of staying where one is or delaying action until a particular time or until something else happens. Aren’t we all waiting for so many things right now? |
